Kiddo's Play Dates

Creative Ways for Seniors to Spend Time with Each Other

We come to you. Kiddo’s Play Dates is mobile — we bring a three-hour creative afternoon into your senior housing community, materials and all.

Art stations around the room, a Kiddo at every table, music and games running right through it. No artistic experience needed. Just a sense of play and curiosity.

How a play date works

Small tables. One shared project. A Kiddo at every table.

We set up several art stations around your community room, with a Kiddo facilitator at each one. Everybody is making the same thing — but splitting the room into small groups is what lets each person get real attention and work at their own pace.

Music and games are woven into the experience. Clients play and sing along while their hands are busy.

1 hour
A short visit

Half an hour is enough to make one thing and take it home. Plenty of residents start here.

Somewhere in the middle

Arrive late, leave early, or step out and come back. The stations stay set up the whole time.

The full three hours

Take the project all the way through, finish it properly, and leave with it in hand.

Behind the scenes

How a play date gets made

Nothing arrives untested. A play date travels a long way from first idea to your community room — not every one takes exactly this road, but none of them reach a resident until we know they work.

It starts in a classroom

Many of our play dates begin as a lesson plan I’ve taught to elementary school students. If it can hold a child’s attention, there’s something in it worth keeping.

Rebuilt for grown hands

Then it’s redesigned for senior engagement — the materials, the pacing, the number of steps to finish.

Built and packed

Every material is sourced, sorted and jarred — and where a play date is played for prizes, the prize trunk is stocked too. Nobody at the residence has to shop for anything.

Played with the people it’s for

Then I take it home. That’s my aunt — she’s 78 — and her friend, playing jacks with me. They tell me what’s wrong with an activity long before a focus group does.

Tested on a focus group

Before any resident sees it, we run it with a focus group and watch what actually happens. Plenty of good ideas don’t survive this part.

Then it comes to you

The Kiddos learn it hands-on first — the same way residents will — and only then does it go into a senior residence, tested, rehearsed, and packed with everything it needs.

The only entry requirement

No artistic experience needed. Just a sense of play and curiosity.

Most people who come haven’t painted since school, and a good number arrive certain they’re "not creative". Three hours later they’re carrying something home and asking when we’re back.

Bringing us in

Three steps, and we’re in your building

We work with activity directors, life-enrichment coordinators and family members. You don’t need to prepare anything.

I

A short call

Fifteen minutes. We talk through your residents, your room and your budget, and you pick which of the play dates you’d like.

II

We arrive and set up

The Kiddos come to you with everything — materials, aprons, music, prizes. All we need is your community room, tables and chairs.

III

Three hours, then we clear up

Residents come and go as they like. Everyone leaves holding something they made, and we leave the room as we found it.

Pricing

Let’s talk it through.

Pricing depends on which play date you choose, the size of your group and how often you’d like us. It’s quicker to talk than to read a price list, so book a free 15-minute call and we’ll work out what suits your community.

Book a free 15-minute call

no pressure, nothing to prepare

On the call we’ll cover:

  • Which of the play dates suits your residents
  • What it costs, including discounts for a series of visits
  • How many Kiddos and stations your group needs

Before we come

Questions we get asked

What do you need from us?

Your community room, tables and chairs, and the residents. Materials, aprons, music and prizes are ours.

Our residents say they aren’t artistic.

Most of them say that. Nothing is judged, displayed or compared, and no one is asked to show their work to the room.

Does everyone have to stay three hours?

Not at all. The stations stay set up the whole time, so half an hour is a complete visit and nobody is behind.

What about residents with limited mobility or dexterity?

Everything is done seated, and there is a Kiddo at every table to help hands that need it.

How large a group can you take?

We scale the number of stations and Kiddos to your group, so the ratio stays small however many residents join.

How far do you travel?

We serve the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

Can families book a play date as a gift?

Yes. Ring us and we’ll arrange it with your relative’s residence directly.
